The Finnish Institute of Authorised Public Accountants was founded in 1925. The Institute is the oldest representative organisation of authorised public accountants in Finland and its predecessor, Suomen Tilintarkastajainyhdistys - Finska Revisorsföreningen, was founded already in 1910. 97 percent of the approximately 700 Finnish KHT auditors are members of the Institute. The Institute has a key role in developing generally accepted auditing standards in Finland. The Institute has a long history of giving recommendations on generally accepted auditing practices. The recommendations follow the International Standards on Auditing (ISA) of the International Federation of Accountants, IFAC. The code of ethics of the Institute is based on the Code of Ethics of IFAC. The recommendations and the code of ethics can be found in the publication Tilintarkastusalan standardit ja suositukset 2008.

The Institute has also published official Finnish translations of IAS/IFRS standards. The Institute also maintains and develops the quality of its members' audit services.
